REAL ESTATE: Foreclosure shouldn't take away the right to vote - blog

Posted on | September 20, 2012 | Comments

The Fair Elections Legal Network today, Sept. 20, released the report, ?Lose Your Home, Keep Your Vote: How to Protect Voters Caught Up in Foreclosure,? to clear confusion victims of foreclosure may have over their rights to cast a ballot in the November election.

The report spells out practical answers for elected officials and voters on what they can do by Oct. 22 to protect their right to vote.

The number of foreclosures filings in 2011 tell why it?s important to keep the electorate informed. California had the third highest percentages of housing units in foreclosure: There were 428,045 total properties with filings in 2011, nearly 3.2 percent of all housing units with mortgages, a report by the real estate information service, DataQuick said.

We?ll have more on the report in the near future. If you?ve been through foreclosure and have concerns about your voting rights, we?d like to hear from you. Please contact me at dgruszecki@pe.com
