It's Official: America is now
"More Obese than Ever"
More people are now "obese" rather than "just-plain-overweight"
100% of Americans predicted to be overweight by 2048
An interview with Mr. Arkansas and fitness trainer, Todd Scarborough
It's official. "Obese" Americans now outweigh the merely "overweight".
And together they crush the number of Americans with normal weights by over
a 2 to 1 margin.
A report issued by the National Center for Health Statistics shows that more than
34 percent of Americans have become "obese", compared to 32.7 percent who are
merely "overweight". The report said just under 6 percent are "extremely" obese.
"The figures show that America's obesity rate had more than doubled since 1980,"
says health and fitness educator Todd Scarborough.
Scarborough says perhaps even more dismaying are the numbers contained in a
study published in the journal Obesity.
"The study predicted that by 2030, 86% of all adults would be either overweight or
obese. By the year 2047, the study says 100% of Americans will be overweight or
obese if current trends continue," says Scarborough.
The CDC recently reported that 32 percent of U.S. children fit the definition of
being overweight, 16 percent were obese and 11 percent were extremely obese.
"Being overweight or obese not only reduces one's enjoyment of life, but it raises
the
risk of heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, arthritis, and premature death,"
says Scarborough. "We should all be taking these rising obesity statistics very
seriously."
